Aloha Foodies,

I recently visited Calii Love on King Street West in downtown Toronto, with one of my best girlfriends, Courtney from La Belle Sirene for a fun girls date.

Calii Love is a super cool Hawaiian and L.A. inspired quick service food and cafe bar.  This trendy hot spot is filled with Hawaiian-inspired decor like palm trees, pineapple wallpaper, tropical fruit and surfboards.  You are surrounded by colourful ocean-like colours, which create the perfect escape on a dreary or cold winter day.

Calii Love is nothing short of character and originality.  According to their website, Calii is derived from a Hawaiian name meaning "strong woman" which also ties into their influences from the Californian/L.A. lifestyle.  In addition to the warm and cozy setting, comes great hospitality.  The staff is warm, welcoming and have a laid back surfer style vibe..."good vibes only", as their super cute cups say.

Their motto is "Eat Good, Feel Good, Do Good" and that is exactly what we did!

Deciding what to order was the biggest debate of the day.  Calii Love serves tons of fresh, healthy goodies like wholesome bowls, poké and smoothies.  As you know, poké is one of the latest food trends out there.  Originating from Hawaiian fisherman, Poké bowls are vibrant and colourful bowls of rice, fresh fish, and fresh toppings.

We couldn't wait to dig in! As part of their Feel Good attitude, all their items are named after a positive feeling/emotion.  Your order is served up on a tray which indicates your name and what you're ordering (or feeling!). I was feeling "hopeful" and Courtney was "creative".

My hopeful poké bowl was filled with salmon, avocado, wakame, sweet onions, jalapeños, sriracha aioli, pickled ginger, cherry tomatoes & black rice.  Super yummy and not to mention, they photograph beautifully! Courtney packed her creative bowl with all her favourite delicious toppings from the food bar.  The perfect addition to our poké bowls was a heart-warming matcha latte.  Our meals were fresh, delicious and colourful to say the least.

What a satisfying and plentiful lunch!  Calii Love is definitely a new addition to my "favourites" list and poké bowls are seriously my newest addiction!

Mahalo, Calii Love for a great girls day and not to mention...the most delicious poké bowls and matcha lattes.  I can't wait to go back and try more fresh and healthy treasures!

Have you tried poké bowls yet? Where is your favourite spot?

Over the Christmas holidays, my boyfriend and I had the opportunity to visit Adamo Estate Winery for a tour and wine tasting.  Adamo is a small-batch boutique style winery (my fave kind!) located north of Toronto in Hockley Valley.

When I walked into the winery, I was taken away.  The winery is beautiful and upscale with gigantic windows, a marble fireplace and sky-high ceilings.  Adamo is decorated with modern furniture and rustic touches, creating the most stunning and breathtaking atmosphere.  The most unique piece is their custom made chandelier, which was created from some of Adamo's original wine barrels.  Another special touch is the café in the winery, where you can order pastries, coffee/tea, cured meats (homemade & delicious), cheeses, and more! It's the perfect place to spend an afternoon.

After arriving at the winery, we toured the facility and learned about the wine making process, history of Mr. Mario Adamo and how the winery began.  After the tour, we were on to the best tasting and cheese.

We had the opportunity to taste a variety of unique award winning wines from aromatic whites to bold reds.  Small batch wineries are my absolute favourite, as the wines are unique and flavourful.  You truly cherish and appreciate the small-batch wines you fall in love with...once they're gone, they're gone!

At the end of the wine and cheese tasting, we were not ready to leave! We decided to stay behind and indulge in more tastings.  We had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Adamo himself, who brought over a plate of delicious cured meats for us to enjoy.  The perfect pairing during our flight of reds!

Here are some of the wines we had the opportunity to enjoy:

2015 Whip'd White Blend
2015 Vidal Frank's Corner
2015 'Sogno' Un-oaked Chardonnay
2014 Foxcroft Oaked Chardonnay
2014 Willm's Oaked Chardonnay
2015 Underdog Rosé
2015 Gamay Rosé
2015 Red Head Pinot Noir
2014 Parke Pinot Noir
2014 Cabernets
2014 Lowrey Pinot Noir
2014 Gamay Reserve

My two favourite wines were the 2015 Whip'd White Blend and 2014 Cabernets.

The Whip'd is a lightly sweet white wine with a blend of riesling, Vidal and Gewürztraminer.  It is medium bodied, flavourful and fruity wine with tropical notes.

The 2014 Cabernet is a blend of Cab. Franc and Cab. Sauvignon with a medium body.  This red is fruity, yet spicy with floral notes.

We had a fabulous time tasting many of the wines Adamo has to offer.  The service was warm and hospitable, a very inviting atmosphere.  We went home with some of our absolute favourite wines (Underdog Rosé, Whip'd White Blend, 'Sogno' Un-oaked Chardonnay, Willm's Oaked Chardonnay & Cabernets).

We will definitely be visiting again (and of course, restocking on some of our favourites)!

What are some of your favourite boutique wineries?
